Congratulations to the 5th grade 120lb JSYFL Football team for their JSYFL championship beating undefeated Thompson in the semi-finals and undefeated Hoover in the Championship game. A great job by Coach Mike Evers and staff, football players, and parents; and also the loud support from the cheer squad and parents.
The 105lb 4th grade team under Coach Curtis May had an undefeated regular season making it to the semi-finals in the playoffs as the boys did an excellent job.
Coach Mark Johnson’s 90lb 3rd grade team had another great season as well going 7-1 during the regular season.
Special thanks to Coach Jim Jordan and staff for their successful efforts with our 130lb 6th grade team as well, who made it to the semi-finals in the playoffs.
OMYFC’s overall record for the JSYFL football teams was 34-14 and we look to improve that in the coming season.
Congratulations to Mary Steadman’s 4th grade cheer squad for once again taking first place honors in cheer completion.
Another great job by the entire group for their dedication for being the best and representing our park in a first class manner.
We also want to commend all the cheer squads and parents for their support during the season. Oak Mountain traditionally has the largest squads in the league and the young ladies do a super job with their cheer and halftime routines.
There are many other highlights from the 2013 season including Coach Alex Morton’s 5th grade Packers OTM team making it to the OTM Championship game and earning second place honors.
Congrats also to Andy Stidfole’s 4th grade Panthers OTM team for making the playoffs as well.
OMYFC is very proud that in our second year of OTM Recreation league football participation our teams have significantly improved.
Other accomplishments to note include the addition of our second game field at Heardmont Park. Special thanks to the many volunteers and donors.
We also want to give special thanks for the support from Shelby County including County Manager Alex Dudchock and along with Tim Nelson for helping provide our children with a great football venue at Heardmont Park.
